Liz Balazsy is a Marriage and Family Therapist. They provide individual, couple, and family therapy in the Vancouver, WA area.

Liz especially enjoys working with couples and families using attachment-based approaches, including Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy, to heal attachment-based wounds and improve overall emotional connection.

My Background

Liz received a master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, & Family therapy from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling in 2016. They worked in community mental health for four years, providing counseling to adult individuals, couples, and families, prior to joining Compass Whole Health in 2020.

Liz has experience providing counseling, psycho-education, and support for mental health difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD), neurological differences (e.g., ADHD, autism), interpersonal trauma (e.g., emotional, physical, sexual abuse and neglect), grief and loss, and couple/family conflict.

Liz’s approach to therapy is integrative, drawing upon multiple theories and techniques, tailoring them to fit their clients’ unique needs and circumstances. Their therapeutic orientation includes narrative, solution-focused, acceptance, attachment, liberation-based healing, art therapy, and family systems-based approaches.

In their free time, Liz enjoys artwork, listening to music and audiobooks, watching their favorite shows, playing video games, hosting tv show marathons, and spending time with their friends and two cats.

My Approach & Philosophy

Everyone has strengths and the ability to grow both personally and relationally. Counseling can help us recognize and build upon strengths, give voice to our experiences, and develop new perspectives and patterns of relating to ourselves and others.

I provide a safe, accepting space for individuals, couples, and families to identify and process emotional experiences. I work with clients to develop insight into personal and relational patterns and express underlying needs to facilitate emotional connection and improve overall communication. I particularly enjoy working with couples and families because I can consider multiple perspectives and witness and address interactions directly in the session.

My approach to therapy is non-judgmental, strength-based, and trauma-informed. As a family/systems-based therapist, I believe it is crucial to consider our experiences within their broader contexts (e.g., family of origin, culture, society). I use client-centered interventions, adjusting my approach to what best suits clients and their values.
