Counseling for Veterans & Military

If you are in the military, a Veteran, or have suffered from secondary trauma due to your high-stress job, our counselors and therapists can assist you in overcoming this trauma and/or stress. Our counselors can also assist family members who have had to endure this trauma alongside Service members as well.

When you experience trauma for long periods of time you have to live/work in a high-stress environment, your flight, fight, or freeze response can become deeply embedded in your brain and body. This is your body’s way of keeping you safe through these dangerous situations. Unfortunately, when you are no longer in those environments, your body/mind can remain on high alert and can be triggered easily through unwanted memories or sensations. You can have a very difficult time re-adjusting to a lower-stress environment when you are no longer in those jobs or situations. Often this difficulty with readjusting can affect your current relationships with self, family, friends, jobs, and quality of life.

“I was hesitant to go to counseling but the counselors made me feel comfortable.”

You will benefit from counseling if…..

  • Have served in the military

  • Have worked in a high-stress environment

  • Struggle with nightmares, flashbacks, paranoia, startled response, depression, anxiety, or hyper vigilance

  • Have a family member who has been deployed or has experienced trauma or high stress in their job

Specialized trauma-based therapies for Military Veterans can assist you in rewiring and reprocessing this trauma or high stress in a safe, calm state, so you no longer feel easily startled, hyper-vigilant, or have unwanted memories/dreams/flashbacks/sensations. Trauma therapies are proven to work more efficiently than talk therapy at relieving symptoms of complex trauma and are the current Evidence-Based treatment for PTSD.

At Compass, we have therapists and counselors who utilize specialty trauma trainings such as Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and Guided Imagery techniques to assist you in alleviating this  complex stress and trauma. We also have therapists who have served in the Military and as well as have family who have served in the military. Compass is passionate about working with current Military members, Veterans and their families.
